A message from the president:

Why is this year different from all other years? All other years, High Holy Day services were conducted in the sanctuary of the synagogue. This year they will be conducted in the sanctuary and broadcast online via the Zoom app. To ensure the safety of those attending at the synagogue, chairs will be spaced appropriately, windows will be wide open and masks will be required.

David Matt, who has been leading our High Holy Day services for 38 years, will do so this year from the comfort of his home.  Rabbi Alan Green and others will be in the sanctuary. For those joining in from home, arrangements will be made for prayer books to be distributed beforehand and collected afterwards. Look for details to follow in an upcoming weekly newsletter.

It’s our collective joy and responsibility to sustain and nourish the synagogue and the Congregation Beth Shalom it houses and represents. As always, Beth Shalom depends upon membership dues and non-member HHD tickets for the bulk of its operating budget; much of it collected at the door. In this year of Covid, with many of you participating in services online, we’re counting on everyone to renew their membership or purchase tickets in advance.

Everyone on the board is pitching in to meet the challenges presented by this novel year. We’re confident our whole Beth Shalom family will rise to the occasion, making this another memorable, fulfilling High Holy Day season.

L’Shana Tova Tikketevu Vetehatemu

May you be inscribed and sealed (in the Book of Life) for a good year.

Marc Berkowitz, president
