A message from the president:

We’re thankful for the very good year that’s drawing to a close and optimistic about the coming new one. We’d like to highlight some of the signs of vitality and progress of our Fairfield Jewish community.

The recent arrival of Rabbi Alan Green and his lovely wife Chaya enlivened new avenues for knowledge and heightened ritual observance. Rabbi Alan is an inspirational leader whose energy and talents perfectly compliment those of our dear David Matt. We look forward to their collaboration as they again lead this year’s High Holy Day observance. They are truly our Dream Team.

This past year was highlighted by many special, themed Shabbats. The favorite being our 2nd Friday Shabbat Dinner. We look to continue this new tradition in the months ahead.

The latest addition to this line up is the 4th Friday Kabbalah knowledge session. Rabbi Alan led this very well received gathering in August. More to come.

We’re very excited that new Jewish singles, couples and families have recently moved to town. The young children among them may herald a rebirth of our Hebrew school in the near future.

In reaction to attacks at some synagogues nation-wide, local Fairfield churches have reached out to us in solidarity. They express a genuine desire to understand the roots and meaning of the rising tide of anti – Jewish sentiment world – wide and a desire to be part of the solution to it. We’re grateful for their support.

And finally, we’re delighted to report that 50 individual donors helped us meet our fund – raising goal of $9000. It’s a powerful indication of the important role the synagogue plays in the life of our Jewish community. Shai Perelson and his team replaced our old east and north doors and created a new egress from the sanctuary directly to the street. Work will continue throughout the fall to enhance our synagogue structure and property. Individual acknowledgments are being sent. We sincerely thank and appreciate everyone who answered the call.

Traditionally, the New Year is when we renew our commitment to the synagogue. It’s gratifying that membership has risen in recent years. We encourage those who purchase High Holy Day tickets to consider a full membership. Every little bit helps to sustain our Jewish community. We appreciate your support and welcome your input.

L’Shana Tova Tikketevu Vetehatemu

May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year (in the Book of Life).

Marc Berkowitz, president
