Shabbat Services.  Services begin at 8:00 p.m., led by David Matt.

Emo Baer, a longtime member of the Jewish community in Fairfield, Iowa, will celebrate his 90th birthday on July 15. Emo was born in Germany in 1922, moved to pre-independent Israel in 1937 and served with bravery and distinction in Israel’s war of independence.  In Israel, Emo became a nationally and internationally famous agricultural expert and a practitioner of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation.

After moving to Fairfield, Iowa, Emo recounted these experiences in his 1998 book, The Transcendental Rose: An autobiography: childhood in Germany, growing up with Israel, meditating in Iowa.  Emo currently attends the Invincible America Course at Maharishi University of Management.

Emo “would like to invite all my friends of Congregation Beth Shalom to celebrate with me my 90th Birthday. The party will be on Sunday, July 15th, 2012, at the MUM Agiro Center Dining Hall at 12.45 noon.”
